Following Stephen Curry’s departure from Under Armour in November 2025, the four-time NBA champion entered sneaker free agency for the first time in 13 years, opening the door to a new chapter of opportunities and potential partnerships across the footwear industry.
On January 28, 2026, Curry took the court against the Utah Jazz wearing the Nike Zoom Kobe 6 “All-Star.” Midway through the third quarter, however, Curry was spotted on the sideline making a footwear change, switching into the original Way of Wade 12 “Liberty” colorway.
Curry finished the night with 27 points, one rebound, two assists, and two steals, connecting on four of his 10 attempts from beyond the arc as Golden State secured a 140–124 victory.
Curry returned to the Way of Wade 12 “Liberty” on April 17, 2026, during the Warriors’ second Play-In game against the Phoenix Suns, with the eighth and final playoff spot on the line. He finished with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while shooting 3-of-10 from three-point range in a 111–96 loss that officially ended Golden State’s season.
Following the game, Curry, Draymond Green, and head coach Steve Kerr shared an embrace on the sideline—a moment that fueled speculation that it could mark the end of their historic run together. That uncertainty was ultimately put to rest when Kerr and Green re-signed with Golden State, extending a partnership that has helped define one of the most successful eras in franchise history.
The Way of Wade 12 “Liberty” features a predominantly teal silhouette accented by hits of gold. Most notably, Curry Brand detailing appears on the tongue, heel, and insole, distinguishing Curry’s version from the standard Way of Wade 12.
Beneath its special branding, the model retains the performance technology found throughout the Way of Wade 12 line, including SUPER BOOM cushioning underfoot and a carbon-fiber plate engineered to provide stability and propulsion—all packaged within one of the lightest performance silhouettes in Way of Wade history.
On September 9, 2026, Curry—now officially signed with Li-Ning—embarked on his annual tour of China, marking his first tour with the brand. His trip included appearances in Dongguan, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shenzhen.
During the tour, Li-Ning unveiled a China-exclusive collection featuring several Curry-branded releases, including the Way of Wade 12 “Liberty.”
